Biography: Omar Camporese is an Italian tennis player who won two singles titles and five doubles titles on the ATP Tour. He achieved his highest rankings in 1992, when he was World No. 18 in singles and World No. 27 in doubles.
Born in Bologna, Camporese had his professional debut in 1987. His first major singles final took place in 1990, where he lost to Guillermo Pérez Roldán at San Marino. In 1991, Camporese defeated Ivan Lendl at Rotterdam in the final to take his first tour singles title.
At the 1991 Australian Open, Camporese famously played against Boris Becker in a match lasting more than 5 hours. Becker eventually won this match, which is remains the fourth longest in the tournament's history to this day.
Camporese's best performance at a Grand Slam event, meanwhile, took place at the 1992 Australian Open, where he was knocked out in the fourth round by Lendl. In 1992, however, Camporese would win his second tour singles title after beating Goran Ivanišević in the final at Milan.
During his career, Camporese earned a total of $1,609,837 in prize money. He retired from professional play in 1998.
