“Christspiracy: The Spirituality Secret,” the follow-up to “Seaspiracy,” “Cowspiracy” and “What the Health,” will open in theaters in the U.S. for two nights of special screenings that will take place on March 20 and 24. The film will also hit theaters in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on March 20, where it will be distributed by Trafalgar Releasing.
“’Christspiracy,’ the latest documentary from Kip Andersen and Kameron Waters, takes us on a philosophical journey to find out the truth in relation to Jesus and the animals,” Joaquin Phoenix, the Oscar-winning who has worked with Andersen and Waters in the past, said in a statement about “Christpiracy.” “The film explores the answer from many of the world’s religions and exposes unforgiving truths about animal cruelty in the name of religion.”

To make the investigative documentary, Andersen and Waters went around the world to explore the historical connection between religions and animals, exposing how influential religious leaders have overlooked or promoted animal exploitation. They discover a 2,000 year-old coverup, which the press release calls “plausibly the most significant new discovery about Jesus Christ in the last 2,000 years.” The documentary asks the question: “Is there an ethical or spiritual way to kill an animal?”

Featuring interviews from Oxford University professors, American priests and religious leaders from Christian churches, Judaism, Islam, Hindu and Buddhism, “Christspiracy” says it offers “a historical account of how greed, the desire for power and control, and religious texts have led us to where humans and animals are today — in an environmental, ethical, karmic and existential global crisis.”
“‘Christspiracy’ is an exclusive story about Jesus Christ that has never been told in a film before. We believe what we have uncovered will transform history and future teachings forever,” Andersen said in a statement. “We show viewers the truth about what Jesus really meant and what He wanted, and our exclusive findings are all verified by Oxford University professors and doctors. It is an exploration of all the world’s religions including Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. We unveil why the world’s religions have hidden the truth from their people. The film and the truth will shock you to the core.”
Andersen and Waters produced the film, along with directing it.
Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. ET at christspiracy.com. Theatrical screenings will also include an introduction from the filmmakers. Fifty percent of the filmmakers’ net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to animal charities.
